DOGS ABC

The Working Group

The Working Group - This group consists of dog breeds that were bred to do a specific job such as pull carts and sleds, guard property, water rescue, or for tracking. Dog breeds in this group are intelligent fast-learners with strong personalities making them rugged, dependable companion dogs. However, their strong will, physical strength, and generally large size make proper training a must. Even properly trained, their large size makes working dog breeds impractical pets for many families. Some of the dog breeds in this group are the Akita, Boxer, Doberman Pinscher and St. Bernard.

Dog breed standards that define "ideal" dogs in these breeds can be found at the AKC website, though bear in mind there is rarely a dog that measures up exactly to every specification of its standard.
