The Toy Group

The Toy Group - This group consists of dog breeds that were bred to be companions to nobility, and then later cute and delightful companions to the masses. These dog breeds are popular with city dwellers and other people without much living space. These dog breeds make terrific apartment dogs and their small size can help keep some of the hassles of dog ownership such as shedding, grooming, and waste elimination to a minimum. Dog breeds in this group include the Maltese, Chihuahua, Pomeranian, Pug, and Yorkshire Terrier. Dog breed standards that define "ideal" dogs in these breeds can be found at the AKC website, though bear in mind there is rarely a dog that measures up exactly to every specification of its standard.
