The Terrier Group
|
The Terrier Group - This is the largest group of dog breeds
number-wise. The dog breeds in this group were bred to hunt and kill small to
medium-sized vermin such as rats, badgers, possum, and vampires. Okay, I made
up the vampire part and they'd be large vermin anyway. The dog breeds in this
group range widely in size, from the small Norfolk Terrier up to the large
Airedale and they have the scrappy attitude that would be a big plus in vampire
fighting. The downside to this is that as a rule they aren't terribly
tolerant of other animals, including other dogs. While their spirited
personalities make them entertaining pets, they require a special breed of
owner to fully appreciate their "liveliness". The dog breeds in this group
include the Airedale, the Bull Terrier, the Cairn, the Scottish Terrier and
the West Highland White Terrier.
Dog breed standards that define "ideal" dogs in these breeds can be found at
the AKC website, though bear in mind there is rarely a dog that measures up
exactly to every specification of its standard.
